Desert Rose

On my very first trip to the very hot and very dusty state of Arizona, I stopped to visit the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, home to several families of cactus, succulents, and small wild life. I was excited to see the collection up close, but really was just looking for a reason to wear my new denim dress. Enter my Alexis Marikka asymmetrical hem wrap dress with pockets. The garden covers 140 acres, so naturally I decided to wear my red patent leather Valentino Rockstud pumps. They weren't the best option for walking trails, but fashion doesn't have to be about utility.

There are roughly 2,000 species of cacti of whom several are native to the Americas. They have adapted to store water and grow prickly spines in order to survive and thrive in extremely dry environments. Unfortunately, sometimes life can become a harsh and unforgiving desert, challenging us to navigate through scorched weather. We must learn to be resilient like the cactus.
